| It
is believed that this transmitter was built at Motorola and then used
by the Motorola ham club. It follows some guidelines of the
Johnson Desk KW and the ARRL KW transmitter. It is very well
built and came with LOTS of documentation. After a Massive cleaning effort, the modulation transformer was found to be shorted. W8QBG has been helping to restore this unit. Description: 6.5 ft tall and 3 ft wide. This transmitter tops 500 lbs. Bottom deck is the PA HV power supply complete with hour meter at 756 hours. Next up is the modulation deck housing two 810 triodes with a separate 2600-volt power supply. Mid bay are the screen and LV supplies, metering control and the variacs for the Screen and HV. The top deck contains the RF chassis with two 4-400s in forced air cooled config. The unit uses a B&W 805 bandswitched tank. This unit requires external excitation in the form of RF and Audio. A Johnson Ranger is used for this purpose. |
