ELECT VOLODYMYR
PRESIDENT
Why not? A majority of the people in the Ukraine asked that
question of their legislators when the principal actor in a satirical
weekly television show on Ukrainian television was nominated.
We commented on this unique circumstance a week ago (See the
blog of November 13, 2019, in the Archives below.)
Since 2005, the offices of president and prime minster of the
Ukraine have undergone constant upheaval; two revolutions, a war by
Russian separatists in the eastern sector of the nation and charges of
voter fraud and corruption.
U.S. State Department officials, particularly recently fired
ambassador to the Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch and her staff, have supported
the Ukraine in its struggle with Putin’s Russia over the Russian takeover
of a large section of eastern Ukraine.
During the House of Representatives inquiry concerning a
possible call for an impeachment trial by the Senate, our stable genius
president tweeted a long piece of invective meant to smear Yovanovitch,
the recently fired ambassador, after she was called to tell what she knew
about the bribe offered to Ukraine by the President in exchange for
digging up dirt about Trump’s possible opponent in 2020.
PS: Following a huge public outcry, Trump finally released the
$400-million in aid to the Ukraine after holding the funds hostage for
weeks.
