Not since a meteorite half the size of Tucson, Arizona struck Yucatan eons ago...

    However there is a slow-motion, worldwide disaster just as great or greater going on, and our President and a handful of deniers of Climate Change will not admit that anything is causing planetary warming, despite the undeniable fact that the rising seas are already inundating hundreds of islands and thousands of people in Polynesia; Fiji, the Marshall Islands, The Island Nation of Kiribati, formerly the Cook Islands, across the Pacific to the Maldives and closer to home, in the Bahamas. Soon, seaside communities built upon limestone strata will begin to crumble into the oceans that touch both of our coasts.

    It is a crime to ignore the melting of polar ice caps and glaciers worldwide, the rash of fires, tornadoes, hurricanes, most especially disappearing coral habitation for seafood at the lowest end, the beginning of the marine food chain. Warming seas can also account for the rash of sharks straying northward.

    What is it going to take to convince the horde of coal and oil fans and especially our president who anointed them, that this is not quirky, temporary “weather.” He insists that Climate Change is a hoax. He withdrew us from the Paris Accord without considering the ramifications even though countries such as China and Brazil signed on.

    Scientists in 200 nations estimate worldwide temperatures have increased one degree since the beginning of the industrial revolution. The tipping point is an increase of 2.0 degrees Centigrade or 35.6 degrees Fahrenheit, beyond which lurks absolute disaster. They hope to stay the increase at 1.5 degrees Centigrade or 34.7 degrees Fahrenheit by cutting carbon emissions 45 percent by 2030. -
