Thoughts Following the Annual Meeting of Anarchists or Lost in Translation: The G-20 Summit

The battalions of polizei fought the rioters to a draw, but barely. There were times when the hordes of Goths and Visigoths appeared to be close to pillaging Hamburg. I think Grossmutter Merckel demonstrated an abundance of restraint in her treatment of both the crazies and the foreign representatives gathered there. It's widely believed that all that smoke we saw was caused by bundles of cannabis burning in the streets.

We were unable to discern what it was that the various societal elements gathered there wished to accomplish. I'm only certain that nearly everyone hoped that Trump would change his intractable stand against those who believe that our planet is slowly getting warmer due to the human-caused greenhouse effect. Ice is melting at an ever increasing rate and the oceans are inexorably rising. Score one for Steve Bannon, our President's Chief among many advisors. President Trump is the only world leader out of all in attendance who refuses to buy into Global Warming. He needs to spend a few hours in southern Arizona.

Undeclared winner: Russian President for Life Vladimir Putin. In a press conference following his meeting with Trump, he gleefully stated that our President no longer believed that Russia interfered in our National election. Trump responded with the one word tweet heard throughout the world: "Whatever!" For a moment, I thought he was reviving the Jackie Gleason role as Ralph Kramden in "The Honeymooners." Come to think of it, if Putin put on a crumpled hat, he could pass for Art Carney, who played Kramden's sewer-worker sidekick, Ed Norton.

This week, we are to be treated to a tour de farce being played out on CNN by the sons and son-in law of oil baron J.R. Ewing in a remake of "Dallas." No one in the vast unseen TV audience will believe that Donald Trump, Jr, fell for the old KGB trick of a femme fatal promising to tell tales of misdeeds inspired by political opponents of his poppa. Or will they?

Coming soon to a TV screen near you: a remake of "Peace With Honor," that which Neville Chamberlain, the British Prime Minister declared was the result of ceding part of Czechoslovakia to Nazi Germany in March of 1938. Hitler soon took over all of the Czech Republic and in less than a year invaded Poland, resulting in WWII and 59-million deaths, give or take a million.
