Star Wars Nostalgia

Really? Were we first introduced to Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Chewbacca, C-3PO,  Obi-Wan Kenobi and later dozens of other ageless characters such as Yoda—all spawned in the brain of genius George Lucas and his team, beginning 38 years ago?

This flashback was inspired by a teaser commercial for the next in the series of unending trilogies about the goings-on in the Galactic Empire. This time however, we may journey through a worm-hole to another universe, for the multi-generational blockbuster machine conceived by Lucas was sold lock, stock and mother-ship by Lucas to the Disney folks in 2012— for $4-billion. The new space opus set in a time and place long, long ago and far, far away, is due to be released by Christmas-time, 2015.

This time it's has been produced by Kathleen Kennedy, who has 60-plus films in her dossier and was directed by J.J. Abrams, who knows a lot about the latest special effects technology after having been responsible for the last two Star Trek films.

Didn't we all enjoy swooping down those canyons, knocking out those TIE fighters and endless white storm troopers by the hundreds, if not thousands? We can only hope that we've seen the last of Jar-Jar Binks, voted "The Most Annoying Character of All Time," by a British entertainment magazine.

Star Wars Number 7 is titled, "The Force Awakens," which tends to make me hope that this will not be another prequel. As Vanity Fair magazine puts it, "A whole generation of kids who've grown up on prequels do not appreciate the impact of the original Star Wars trilogy."

So turn up the volume and let John Williams' timeless introductory music begin to resonate once again in our heads.  Let The Force (whatever the heck that is) be with you...once again!
