WHAT SOME FOLLOWERS LIKE ABOUT TELEVISION

OK, alright, settle down. I got it. You feel our critique of current television fare was rather snobbish.  Some followers did respond to my invitation: "Perhaps there are times when you were impressed by other great moments - a musical or dramatic performance, as well as a news event covered by TV, that you feel was important and worth mentioning. Please read what others have to say and share your impressions with us."

These "Indelible Moments" were provided by F. C. Tucker:

The Kennedy assassination and subsequent funeral. The Watergate hearings. Carl Rove's face on election night. 9/11. The Saddam Hussein debacle, including the unceremonious hanging. More recently, the shooting at Safeway in Tucson of Rep. Giffords and others... and the Sandy Hook shooting...just to name a few.

Phil,

I like TV for Sports.

(I do too Jim. It's the reason I recently returned to "Cable" after a two-year hiatus)

Phil,

You asked about television. I must tell you that watching "The War" series done by Ken Burns on PBS gave me an intimate look at our history that I hadn't imagined. I watched knowing that I was part of it and reconciling the world.

Next, I had a similar experience watching "The Dust Bowl," again by Ken Burns, that put me right there watching the wind blow and experiencing the emotions of those who lived through it.

Then, again on PBS, the British comedies are light hearted and part of my repertoire. The ones that come at a convenient time for me are "Keeping Up Appearances," which took me some time to appreciate, and "As Time Goes By" - both with excellent acting and no commercials!

PLEASE NOTE:  I've a brand new e-mail address: k7os@comcast.com

However, I will continue to monitor k7os@msn.com for at least another month. I would appreciate your changing it in your address book - just in case you feel inspired enough to send a comment some day. Never can tell!

The easiest way for you to respond is click back to the e-mail that carried a link to this blog, click "Reply" - and then express your opinion.

The reason I changed portals is because Microsoft Network (MSN) changed their eMail protocol (Now called "Outlook") and with over 1,000 addresses, it became very unstable and took hours to send these blogs, especially when I use BCC, so others can't harvest your e-mail addresses, and peddle them in batches.

A question for 65+ followers: I believe that one of the funniest weekly things ever on TV was "Your Show of Shows," (1951-1954) with Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, Howard Morris, and great troop of writers and performers. The programs are now available on DVD from Amazon. 650 reviewers gave it a solid Five Stars. That is unprecedented. If you never saw it, try it. It's sure genius.

Oh yes - had enough? Simply reply and put "No more please" (Or, please no more!)  in the Subject line.

GOOD NEWS OF THE WEEK: Wearable artificial kidneys are under development. Clinical tests may start this year.

Just think, if they hurry with the research and development, one day it will be possible to make another complete artificial you!.
